BAE Systems has established a new presence at Liberty Station in Point Loma, California, to collaborate with customers and partners and integrate maritime mission capabilities for regional Department of Defense, intelligence, and homeland security contracting agencies.

The 80,000 square-foot facility complements the company’s new maritime command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence (C4I) development center in Charleston, South Carolina, which supports capabilities development, production, and integration.

“Establishing a footprint on both coasts positions BAE Systems as the premier production and capabilities integrator for our maritime customers,” said Gene Glazar, president of BAE Systems’ Information Solutions group. “Our maritime C4I commitment is a collaboration-focused endeavor that will be directly enhanced by the capabilities of both facilities.”

The San Diego facility will support the company’s submitted proposal for the U.S. Navy’s CANES (Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services) program, which replaces legacy C4I hardware and software systems unique to each naval ship with commercial, off-the-shelf technology. Other maritime C4I programs housed at BAE Systems’ Liberty Station facility include the Distributed Common Ground System-Navy, which is the U.S. Navy’s primary intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and targeting support capability afloat and ashore.

To provide a collaborative environment, the facility houses an “innovation center” for advanced technology demonstrations with networking capabilities to similar company facilities across the country. Liberty Station management will provide collocated production, manufacturing, and collaboration facilities for frequent customer and end-user interaction. The building’s exterior is LEED Gold-certified. Internally, low-wall cubicle arrangements, consistent with the interior’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver rating, are environmentally friendly and allow increased interaction among employees and customers.
