All You Need Is Love (and $500) to be Married Dec. 18 at The North Chapel Liberty Station

December 17, 2008

northchapelwedding

As the holidays quickly approach, it seems love is in the air. But what do you give the man or woman who has everything? And what can you give them that meets your recessionary budget?

For a few lucky couples, the answer is a one-of-a-kind wedding or vow renewal at the charming and historic North Chapel Liberty Station in Point Loma. For the recession-friendly price of $500, seven lucky couples may walk down the aisle of the recently renovated chapel during continuous wedding or vow renewal ceremonies starting at 5:30 p.m. and concluding at 9 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18.

“For brides and grooms looking for a place to tie the knot this holiday season at a price that won’t break their budget, this is the perfect gift of love to give each other,” says Bridget Wear, who is coordinating the ceremonies being held at the recently restored chapel.

According to Wear, weddings can be stressful to coordinate during the hectic holidays and costs can be beyond reach for many would-be married couples. But the charming and romantic North Chapel has everything it takes to make a memorable wedding for only $500. That cost includes a chaplain for the official ceremony, decorative flowers throughout the historic site, a bridal bouquet and groom’s boutonniere, and the traditional wedding march played on the chapel’s massive pipe organ.

The 300-seat North Chapel offers plenty of room for family members and invited guests to witness the joyous occasion.  And for post-wedding ceremony celebrations, Wear says the Marketplace at Liberty Station boasts several nearby eateries, including Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza.

The North Chapel at the Marketplace at Liberty Station, 2881 Roosevelt Road, was restored and reopened in 2007 by C.W. Clark, Inc., a La Jolla-based real estate development company.  The two-story, non-denominational chapel was originally built in 1942 and used for a variety of causes and celebrations from worship services to weddings by recruits and other personnel at the San Diego Naval Training Center, and for Navy ships stationed here or visiting the local port.  The chapel, along with dozens of other military buildings on the bayside property, was closed by the Navy in 1997 and sat vacant until the makeover. Since reopening, the historic chapel has hosted numerous community events and religious ceremonies, including dozens of weddings.

Reservations for the Dec. 18 marriage ceremonies are now available at www.thenorthchapel.com.  For more information, visit the web site or call 619-335-0221.

San Diego Dance Theater Presents “Sexy, Smart Sundays at 5” Cabaret Dances at Anthology Supper Club

December 17, 2008

jean-isaacs-logo

On January 4, 11, 18, and 25, 2009 at 5:00 pm, you are invited to enjoy a sophisticated, yet casual early evening of modern dance, culture, music, food and wine…all with that certain jazz flair.

The Jean Isaacs San Diego Dance Theater tradition of presenting Sexy Smart Art continues with the presentation of the 8th annual Cabaret Dances – this time at Anthology, San Diego’s world class dining and jazz supper club.  Cabaret Dances has been traditionally been presented at the San Diego Museum of Art Copley Auditorium, currently being used by the Old Globe Theatre. Anthology offers some of the most legendary acts on stage and this is a unique opportunity to present dance in this classy, jazz-infused environment. Patrons can enjoy food and drink before and during the show from a full Anthology menu featuring the New American Cuisine of award-winning culinary superstar Bradley Ogden.

Jean Isaacs and her company of ten dancers continue to make the viewing of dance a new adventure by programming their annual Cabaret Dances 2009 in this exciting new venue. “The first time I went to a concert at Anthology, I knew I wanted to book the dance company in this extraordinary 130,000 square foot venue,” said Isaacs. “I love the idea of streaming video throughout the evening, to enhance the intimacy that Cabaret Dances is known for. Anthology’s million dollar sound system and reputation as San Diego’s premiere jazz venue folds nicely into our concept of an all-live jazz and blues evening of music by pianist Steve Baker and vocalist Rachel Drexler and dance by the gorgeous dancers of the San Diego Dance Theater.”

The sizzling, sexy and steamy program takes its cue from the sultry nightclub atmosphere and includes the premiere of “Eyes of Love,” a collection of duets and trios created by Artistic Director Isaacs and danced to jazz standards sung by Ms. Drexler and performed by pianist Baker. The dances, set on the company, are performed to music by Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, Thelonious Monk, Irving Berlin and Cassandra Wilson.

The program also includes “Sippie,” a suite of five blues songs by the legendary singer from the 20’s Sippie Wallace, played and sung by Steve Baker. Wallace was a major influence on a young Bonnie Raitt, who recorded several of Wallace’s songs and performed live with her.

Guest choreographers/performers include Daniel Marshall and John Diaz, who join company dancers Sadie Weinberg, Annie Boyer, Liv Isaacs-Nollet, Veronica M Lamm, Anthony Diaz, Julio Catano, and new dancers Minaqua McPherson and Danielle Eldred.

Anthology is located at 1337 India Street, San Diego, CA  92101.  Public parking is available, and valet is available for $10. Doors open at 3:30, and the performance begins at 5:00.  Please call 619.595.0300 for dinner reservations.

Tickets are $35 for exclusive VIP seating, $30 for general seating, $20 for seniors and military, and $15 for students.  Purchase tickets online at www.sandiegodancetheater.org or www.anthologysd.com, or call 619.595.0300.  For Information, call San Diego Dance Theater at 619.225.1803
