Visions Art Quilt Gallery and Jean Isaacs San Diego Theater Collaborate on Art Opening

Visions Art Quilt Gallery at Liberty Station announces a new exhibition called “Figuratively Speaking” beginning August 9, 2008 and running through October 5, 2008.  The human form was the inspiration for 16 contemporary quilt artists whose work is featured in this exhibition.  The work spans many styles from photo-realistic to the fantastic.  The artists all use the human form or face to tell a story or make a political, cultural or humorous statement about the human condition. 

 

The opening reception will be on August 9, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Visions Art Quilt Gallery.  The reception will also feature a performance by Annie Boyer, from Jean Isaacs San Diego Theater, who has choreographed an original work inspired by the art in the exhibition.

San Diego Watercolor Society Presents: “Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight”

This Friday, August 1, from 5pm to 8pm, please join the San Diego Watercolor Society (SDWS) for the opening reception of “Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight”, an exhibition of original watercolors, juried by Sharon Hinckley.   Approximately 100 original paintings created by SDWS members will be on display and for sale.  Reception and show are located in The San Diego Watercolor Society gallery at 2825 Dewey Road, Suite 105, at Liberty Station on Point Loma.  There is no charge for admission.

San Diego Magazine’s 2008 Best of San Diego Party Coming to Liberty Station

On August 22, 2008, San Diego Magazine will be holding its inaugural “2008 Best of San Diego” party at Legacy Plaza at NTC Promenade from 5:30 pm to 10:30 pm.  San Diego is invited to celebrate San Diego Magazine’s “Best of” award winners of 2008, with restaurants, wine tasting and entertainment.

 

General tickets can be purchased for $35 and VIP tickets for $50.  VIP tickets include front of the line access, VIP gift bag, and entrance to win sweepstakes from select sponsors.  100% of the ticket sales will be donated to the San Diego Fire Rescue Foundation, benefiting San Diego County’s fire departments. Point Loma Boardroom “Young Guns” Movie Nights

San Diego’s hottest surf shop, Point Loma Boardroom, will be showing the surfing movie trilogy, Young Guns, during the month of August.  Showings will be at 8:00 pm on August 9th (Young Guns 1), August 23rd (Young Guns 2), and August 30th (Young Guns 3), behind Trader Joe’s between Cold Stone and TJ’s in the small promenade around the fountain.

San Diego Watercolor Society Art Exhibition at the Airport

The San Diego Watercolor Society (SDWS) has been selected by San Diego Regional Airport Authority to be a part of the airport’s rotating cultural exhibits program.  The SDWS exhibit, in the lower level of Terminal Two, just east of the baggage terminal, is on display through January 12, 2009 and is free to the public.  The 15 original plein air paintings, all by SDWS members, are gorgeous interpretations of San Diego locations from Coronado to Little Italy to Carlsbad and are meant to educate viewers about art while reflecting the rich cultural diversity of San Diego.  The display also includes a typical watercolor painter’s on-location set-up, including paints, easel, sketchbook, and sun hat, and painting-in-progress, set in a clever photographic diorama of the NTC Promenade.

 

Artists specially curated into this exhibition are all San Diego Watercolor Society members.  Included in the exhibit are:
