Material Guys” Exhibit Proves Real Men DO Quilt!

It’s been said that “boys will be boys” – that they prefer trucks to dolls and would rather toss a football than sew a stitch. The upcoming show at Visions Art Quilt Gallery at Liberty Station puts a sewing needle right through that old stereotype. “Material Guys” features award winning quilts in cotton and silk and other unusual fiber constructions of metal, plastic and thread by, you guessed it…MEN!  Robert Leathers is one such man who quilts. A leading member of the Quilt Visions family, the burly and often tool-belted Leathers was the architect who designed the space and led the community build.  His work, along with that of Bob Adams (www.bobadamsart.com), John Garrett and Tim Harding (www.timharding.com) are among the male artists who make up this exhibition.  “Material Guys” will celebrate its opening reception on Friday, June 6 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and the exhibit will run from June 6 to July 27, 2008.  For more information, visit www.quiltvisions.org.

Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 10am-4pm, FREE

Visions Art Quilt Gallery is a non-profit, member-supported organization dedicated to the promotion and appreciation of the quilt as art.  As the first facility like this anywhere in the U.S., the gallery itself is a unique space designed by architect, artist, and quilter Bob Leathers.
