Stockdale Tribute at NTC Promenade

On October 8, the NTC Foundation paid tribute to American Heroes Vice Admiral James and Sybil Stockdale by dedicating the Stockdale Tribute at the NTC Command Center at Liberty Station. As a destination that honors the region’s Navy heritage and showcases innovation and creativity, NTC Promenade is a fitting home to celebrate the lives of a courageous American couple.
With the passing of Retired Vice Admiral James Stockdale, our nation lost one of the most highly decorated officers in the history of the US Navy. A remarkable hero and leader who spent over seven years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam, he returned to his longtime home in Coronado to continue his service to his country and serve as presidential candidate Ross Perot’s running mate.
Over 100 supporters, civic and military leaders, family and friends were on hand at the dedication of the Vice Admiral James B. Stockdale Board Room, the Sybil Stockdale Rose Garden in honor of Navy Families, and the Stockdale Family Exhibit at the historic NTC Command Center building.

Liberty School
October 11, 2007Monday, October 8, the NTC Foundation welcomed the first students of Liberty School to the NTC Promenade educational/cultural campus. Liberty School will offer students an approach to education that is less constrained than traditional approaches to public education.
During the fall/winter semester, NTC Promenade Resident Groups will provide instruction that enriches standards-based curriculum in dance, art, music, theatre, science, language arts, and social studies to approximately 120 3rd and 7th grade students, with program expansion beginning in the second semester. Students attending The Liberty School will have a “home base” classroom in Historic Building 176.
