Planning Board Elections
February 14, 2007The Peninsula Community Planning Board, which is the body that advises the city on growth and development issues for the Point Loma area, has five vacancies it will be trying to fill at it’s March 15 elections. This community (Entire community, not just Liberty Station) needs reasonable, objective people to serve on the PCPB and help guide us forward at this very important time. We encourage anyone who is interested to attend the PCPB monthly meeting tomorrow (Thurs.) night, February 15, at 6:30 pm to learn more.
Location: Point Loma Branch Library, 3701 Voltaire Street

I am getting questions about WHEN to expect the park to open… and what is the schedule for the remainder to open?
How about the channel, too… the shoreline path and some sort of small boat launching facility (re kayaks)?
Actually, the rumors about the channel keep circulating and they are all based in pure speculation. Is there anything concrete about the channel?
Thanks,

I know there are a lot of questions about the park. I’m getting them too and I apologize for not saying more to people about it. The truth is, there hasn’t been a lot to report. We actually have a walk through with the city today and so I should know more later.
Basically, we are in the final days of our maintenance period. There are only 2 or 3 minor items left on the punch list that the city needs to sign off on before they are supposed to accept the park from us. At that time it’s completely up to Park and Rec as to when the fences come down. I’ve heard everything from 30 to 90 days. I hope this meeting today will give a little more clarity on that because we want the park open as much as you do.
The esplanade, which is part of the park construction, will open with the park. The dirt trail that is currently used by people walking dogs, etc, will also remain in tact.
The Shoreline Plaza project was appealled again. It will be heard at the April Coastal Commission hearing. After that we are probably 10 months to a year from completion of that project. Shoreline Plaza is the area with the small boat ramp. So no project, no boat ramp.
Finally, and this all intertwines, the boat channel is still owned by the Navy. It’s the last peice of the property that was not conveyed to the city. Currently the city and Navy are studying the channel to determine to what level it needs to be cleaned in order to transfer it. Once transferred then we, or other parties, can work with the city on providing access to the water via ramps, boat slips, etc.
