The Shoreline Plaza project, which has earned the support of the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, the Point Loma Association, the City’s Planning Commission and the City Council, has once again been appealed.
The Peninsula Community Planning Board has appealed the project to the California Coastal Commission, citing a variety of issues that we believe have been thoroughly vetted in a public forum.
Additionally, the Coastal Commission staff has raised a concern about the removal of building 186, which was originally intended to remain, and the design of the esplanade. They would like the Commission to weigh in on these issues. Regardless of the PCPB’s appeal, the plan most likely still would have been considered by the Coastal Commission staff.
The appeal will be heard at the Coastal Commission’s April 10-13 hearing in Santa Barbara.
We have decided to move forward with the deconstruction of buildings at Shoreline Plaza that are not related to either appeal. We have the required approvals and permits to deconstruct several buildings. The only building for which deconstruction is still in question is number 186.
Our desire is to get a head start on the work that will take place regardless of the decision made by the Coastal Commission. We are anxious to complete this project and bring much needed parking to the north end of Liberty Station, and maritime themed shops and businesses and eventual access to the boat channel to the community.
